As years pass, some Homecoming events have evolved, but others have remained the same to preserve the legacy of longtime traditions.

During Homecoming week Oct. 2-9, attendees can expect to see familiar events like the Flashback Friday party and Red and Black Reunion Row. For students, there will be events like the Medallion Hunt and TikTok showcase (a new addition this year).

The kickoff event will be a Panther pep rally and student bonfire on Sunday, Oct. 2, at 7 p.m.

“Homecoming is a time of celebration for alumni, faculty and staff, students and the LaGrange community,” said Martha Pirkle, Director of Alumni and Community Relations. “We encourage everyone to come out and enjoy the festivities.”

Starting on Thursday, Oct. 6, LaGrange College Theatre will present “Five Women Wearing the Same Dress” at 6 p.m. at Price Theater. Other performances are scheduled for Friday and Saturday at 6 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m.

On Friday, Oct. 7, the 37th Panther Memorial Golf Classic: Remembering Tom Duckett and the Legacy of Former Athletes will begin with registration at 10 a.m. and a shotgun start at 11 a.m. The tournament was renamed in memory of LC athletes who have passed away.

Next, the Alumni Awards luncheon will be held at noon at Turner Hall. The event will feature the presentation of the 2022 Honorary Alumni Awards to Dr. Joe Cafaro and Bobby Carmichael, the 2022 Outstanding Young Alumni Award to Conrad Clevenger ’14 and the 2022 Shackelford Alumni Achievement Awards to Frank “Max” Wood ’81 and Sarah Decker ’02. RSVP is required. The cost is $15 per person.

On Friday evening, the festivities will move downtown for the Flashback Friday party at Overlook Plaza, next to Wild Leap Brewing Company. Two signature cocktails have been created by Wild Leap for the occasion: Peachsicle Panther and Pouncer Punch.

The Reasons Why band, featuring several alumni, will return to provide music, while food trucks and cornhole will be onsite.

“The Flashback Friday event is a great setting for alumni to have impromptu reunions with friends,” Pirkle said.

The Rev. Ashley Fitzpatrick Jenkins ’08, President of the Alumni Association, said she enjoys coming back to the Hill to catch up with former classmates.

“Homecoming brings the entire LaGrange College family together for fun as we remember the past and look toward the future,” Rev. Jenkins said. “Coming back to the Hill allows us to remember the best four years of our lives.”

She said Homecoming is special for her and her family.

“One of my favorite memories of Homecoming was when we brought our 3-month-old son to LaGrange College for the first time,” Jenkins said. “He was able to meet so many friends that we treasure.”

Peggy Cobb Schug ’70 said she is flooded with memories of her college friends whenever she drives back to the Hill for Homecoming.

“Homecoming is a fun-filled time to reunite, celebrate memories from our college days and create new memories,” Schug said.

On Saturday, Oct. 8, Men’s Basketball alumni will take the court at Mariotti Gym at 10 a.m. for their annual contest.

Other Saturday events include open houses of the Nursing and Education departments at West Side and the Lamar Dodd Art Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the Red and Black Reunion Row with a registration tent that will be in the Callaway Auditorium parking lot from 10 a.m. until the end of halftime. The Panther football team will take on Maryville at 1 p.m. at Callaway Stadium. Halftime will feature the announcement of the 2022 Homecoming King and Queen and Student Government Association Spirit Contest winners.

The week will conclude with the annual Memorial Service on Sunday, Oct. 9, at 11 a.m., at the Chapel. It will honor the lives of alumni and members of the LC community who have passed away since Homecoming 2021. For a list of those being remembered, visit here.
